They are also incomplete if the website describes a different business.

I do not treat GBP as a side channel. Google uses it with the site. AI systems read both. If they do not match, you have given the systems two versions of the company.

Why Your GBP and Website Must Match

GBP and the website have to describe the same business.

Same name. Same service set. Same areas. Same proof.

Name, address, and phone have to match (NAP consistency). That is the baseline. Parity goes further than NAP. The services listed on the profile need pages and language on the site. The categories need to match how you actually get hired. The reviews need to describe that same offer.

If the profile says you do one set of jobs and the WordPress menu says another, Google does not have to guess which one is current. It can treat the mismatch as a reliability problem.

GBP Services vs. Website Service Pages

A generic category is not enough.

If you are an HVAC company, “HVAC” is the bucket. The jobs people hire you for are more specific: furnace repair, AC install, duct cleaning, heat pump work, maintenance plans. Those jobs should appear in your Google Business Profile services list, and each one should have a service page that uses the same language.

Law firms and other local services work the same way. “Attorney” is not the same as the case types you take. The profile and the site both need the case types.

I said this on the Growth Garden recording: list the detailed services people actually hire you for, and have pages for them. Then the entity has to back up the claim that you know those jobs.

Backing Up Every GBP Service With Proof

Every service on GBP needs support somewhere else in the record.

That support can be:

A WordPress service page

On-site proof (process, credentials, photos of that work)

Reviews that mention that service

Directories or mentions that repeat the same service language

If GBP lists a service and nothing else in the record confirms it, you asked Google to take the listing at face value. That is a weak entity.

GBP engineering needs to match the entities on the site. Categories, services, description, and attributes should not invent a second business.

Common GBP and Website Mismatches

These are the mismatches I see most often:

Old addresses still on the site, in the footer, or on leftover location pages

Services you dropped that are still on GBP

Services you added on the site that never made it to the profile

Extra locations that no longer operate

Category drift: the primary Google Business Profile category no longer matches the work that pays the bills

Review language that describes a different offer than the current site

Hours, service area, or “from the business” description that contradicts the homepage

WordPress makes leftover pages easy to miss. A retired service template can stay published and keep the old offer alive. That is the same sitewide problem I wrote about in WordPress SEO and AEO for local service businesses.

How Google and AI Read the Mismatch

Google already compares your record with competitors. A split between GBP and the site is one more inconsistency in that comparison.

AI answers do not only read the money page. They pull from the profile, reviews, directories, and third-party pages. If those sources disagree, you are harder to recommend as “the best [service] near me.”

Citation tools can show whether the brand appears in those answers. I use Cairrot for that check and wrote Cairrot Evaluation (2026). A mention does not fix a GBP that lists work the site does not support.

Reports that only show ranks and plugin scores usually skip this. See Why Your SEO Isn’t Generating Leads.

GBP Cleanup Order

Do this before you add new categories or new cities.

Inventory GBP: name, categories, services, description, areas, hours, photos, products if you use them.

Inventory the site: service pages, location pages, footer NAP, about page, schema if you have it.

Close the gaps. Remove or update what is no longer true. Add site pages only for services you still sell and can support with proof.

Then add new categories or services, with pages and reviews behind them.

Do not expand the profile first and hope the site catches up. That is how you get category drift.

Geo proof for the areas you claim is the next layer. A city name on a page is not that proof. I cover that in Service Area SEO: Prove You Work the Areas You Claim.

What to Bring to the Call

GBP view as the public sees it

Site URL

Current service list (what you actually sell)

Two or three competitors whose profiles you lose to

Any agency notes about GBP work already done

I want at least 50 conversations with WordPress owners and some practitioners before I turn this into teaching.
