Our dear text ads \u2013 with two headlines and one 90-character description.<\/p>\n<p>Google and Bing both did away with the old version of standard text ads recently, and now we\u2019re seeing larger text ads with a more varied alignment of extensions than we\u2019d seen in years past.<\/p>\n<p>Ads usually fire with the two headlines side by side, with a description line and ad extensions below.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes ads will serve with a third \u201cheadline,\u201d most often comprised of the URL itself. The URL in the headline can read a bit weird, so you have the option to disable if you wish.<\/p>\n<p>However, we know how Google loves to experiment: we\u2019re starting to see ads smoosh together with ads to form one mega-ad. Sometimes the combinations are coherent, sometimes not, but it\u2019s the new normal and something advertisers will have to get used to!<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Responsive_Text_Ads_public_beta\"><\/span>Responsive Text Ads (<i>public beta)<\/i><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>These aren\u2019t so much a variation on text ads, but more an automated method of powering them.<\/p>\n<p>Aesthetically, they share the same appearance as \u201cnormal\u201d text ads \u2013 there\u2019ve been rumors that the ads are capable of showing three headlines; while possible, it\u2019s\u00a0<i>highly\u00a0<\/i>unlikely to happen more than a fraction of the time.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisers upload a variety of headlines and description lines, and Google will shuffle them based on best-expected performance.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s recommended to include at least three headline variations and two description variations, but you\u2019re able to include up to 15 headlines and four descriptions.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure the variables you use will make sense no matter the order they serve in.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"App_Download_Ads\"><\/span>App Download Ads<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>App Download Ads (and app engagement ads alike) allow you to showcase your app to relevant tablet or mobile users.<\/p>\n<p>The ads will auto-detect the operating system to showcase either the App Store or Google Play where applicable.<\/p>\n<p>The app must be live in either market to be eligible.<\/p>\n<p>App download ads can appear in a number of places including on the SERP, in the Play Store or on the mobile web. All app download and app engagement ads are included in Universal App Campaigns (UACs).<\/p>\n<p>Like responsive ads, UACs include a variety of elements that are shuffled based on what Google expects will yield the best performance.<\/p>\n<p>At the minimum, ads will include up to four independent lines of text that are up to 25 characters. As of this writing, they\u2019re only available for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Locksmiths.<\/li>\n<li>Plumbers.<\/li>\n<li>Electricians.<\/li>\n<li>HVAC.<\/li>\n<li>Garage door services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, it\u2019s expected many more household services will be rolled out over the next year.<\/p>\n<p>The ads are largely automated, and (at this time) operate out of a information, there isn\u2019t much you can change.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s expected these will roll out in bulk in the near future, but for now, they\u2019re focused on smaller local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>The ads appear below sponsored text ads, but above maps and organic results.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Google_Maps_Ads\"><\/span>Google Maps Ads<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ads on Google Maps are primarily powered by location extensions and are treated as a search partner in reporting.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored locations will appear at the top of map search results on desktop or mobile, and are charged on a pay-per-click basis.<\/p>\n<p>The key difference is \u201cclicks\u201d in this case are essentially a click on the
